Do you wonder how to balance personal challenges with running a successful boutique? In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to have a conversation with Macie Kindler, the founder of The Flossy Peach. Macie’s journey is a testament to resilience and community-building, making her a standout in our industry.

The Power of Community in Retail
From Pharmacist Dreams to Boutique Reality
Macie’s journey began in her sophomore year of college. With a deep-rooted love for retail, she initially planned to become a pharmacist and open a pharmacy with a gift shop. However, after a disappointing chemistry test, she realized her true calling was in retail. She switched her major to business and started The Flossie Peach, a boutique that has now become a cornerstone of her community in Moultrie, Georgia.
The Birth of The Flossie Peach
Starting with online sales, Macie juggled college life and entrepreneurship. With her inventory stored at her parents’ house, she spent weekends tagging, steaming, and photographing products. Her mother helped ship orders during the week, showcasing the family support that was integral to her early success. Trunk shows were a hit, allowing Macie to build a loyal customer base through in-person interactions, which she cherished.
Establishing a Brick-and-Mortar Presence
After graduating, Macie opened her first physical store in downtown Moultrie in 2017. The community support was overwhelming, and the store’s success exceeded her expectations. The Flossie Peach quickly outgrew its initial space, prompting Macie to search for a larger location.
The Big Move: A New Home for The Flossie Peach
After much searching, Macie and her sister found the perfect spot: a 17,000 square foot building in the heart of downtown. Though it required extensive renovation, Macie saw its potential. She and her sister, who had also started a business, purchased the building together. Now, The Flossie Peach occupies a stunning space, shared with her sister’s State Farm agency. The move has been transformative, providing ample room for the boutique and reinforcing Macie’s commitment to her community.
Investing in Community
One of the keys to Macie’s success has been her deep investment in the Moultrie community. From moving inventory to her home during COVID-19 and live-selling online to serving on multiple local committees, Macie’s dedication is evident. She believes in the power of community over competition and has fostered a collaborative spirit among local merchants. Events like Second Saturday and the annual Thanksgiving night celebration have turned downtown Moultrie into a vibrant, welcoming destination.
Lessons in Servant Leadership
Macie’s journey is also a lesson in servant leadership. Her approach to business is rooted in serving her community, which in turn has supported and uplifted her boutique. This philosophy extends to her involvement with the Boutique Hub’s Mastermind program, where she has both learned from and contributed to a network of fellow business owners. The mutual support and shared wisdom have been life-changing, reinforcing her belief in the power of collective growth.
Overcoming Challenges
2023 was a challenging year for Macie, marked by economic uncertainty and personal doubt. However, she emerged stronger, learning to trust in her vision and abilities. The Mastermind experience played a significant role in rebuilding her confidence, showing her that she belonged at the table with other successful entrepreneurs.
The Flossie Peach is not just a boutique; it’s a testament to the transformative power of following your dreams and investing in the people around you. Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur or a seasoned business owner, there’s much to learn from Macie’s journey.
