Do you have enough of a following to bring in business? Knowing how to leverage your following (regardless of size) can be key to a thriving business. Before TikTok, TV, and fame, Marc D’Amelio has been killing it in the apparel and footwear industry. He joins the show this week to share some of his best business and sales tips, as well as insights that have helped him and his projects succeed.

Turning Followers into Fans: The Business of Influence with Marc D’Amelio
The Story Behind the Brand
When the D’Amelio family decided to launch a footwear line, they didn’t just slap their name on a pre-existing product. Instead, they built the brand from the ground up, ensuring quality, authenticity, and a true connection with their audience.
Unlike many influencer brands that simply license their name, D’Amelio Footwear is a fully developed, hands-on business. The team includes experienced designers, strong factory relationships, and a deep understanding of the industry. This approach sets them apart from other influencer-backed brands and allows them to deliver stylish, high-quality footwear at an accessible price point.
The Challenges of Footwear
Marc acknowledges that entering the footwear market wasn’t an easy choice. “Footwear is hard,” he admits. “The minimum order quantities are insane, sizing is complicated, and for a startup brand to go direct-to-consumer initially, it was a big challenge.”
However, their experience in the fashion industry, combined with their family’s entrepreneurial spirit, helped them navigate these challenges. They quickly realized the importance of working with retailers and boutiques to tell the story of their brand—especially in a space like footwear, where in-store experiences and try-ons matter.
A Family Affair
One of the most unique aspects of D’Amelio Footwear is its deep family involvement. From creative direction to business operations, every member of the family has played a role in its success. Heidi D’Amelio, for instance, is involved in modeling and influencing design direction, while Marc focuses on the business logistics. Dixie and Charli, despite their busy careers, remain engaged in promoting and shaping the brand.
“We wanted to create something that could live on whether or not the girls want to be involved in it,” Marc explains. “This isn’t just a Dixie or Charli brand—it’s a D’Amelio brand.”
What Retailers Should Know
For retailers considering carrying D’Amelio Footwear, Marc emphasizes two key points:
- High-Quality Product – The brand produces footwear in the same factories as many well-established brands, ensuring durability, comfort, and style.
- Influencer Marketing Support – Unlike traditional brands, D’Amelio Footwear leverages its powerful social media presence to drive traffic to retailers. Whether it’s a boutique in a small town or a major retailer, the team actively promotes its stockists, even creating content that highlights specific locations.
“We don’t sell to everyone,” Marc notes. “We’re selective in where we place our product, and we genuinely support the retailers who carry our line.”
Balancing Business and Family Life
Running a business while living life in the public eye comes with its own set of challenges. The D’Amelio family has had to learn how to balance their professional and personal lives by setting clear boundaries.
“We’ve made definite rules within our family—no talking about business at certain times,” Marc shares. “When we’re in the office, we focus on work. But when we’re home, we make sure to switch off.”
Another challenge of being in the spotlight is dealing with negativity. Social media comes with its fair share of trolls and critics, but the D’Amelios have found ways to manage it. “It’s been the hardest part,” Marc admits. “No matter how tough you think you are, words affect you.”
Their approach? Focusing on their community, leaning on one another for support, and continuing to build something meaningful.
Looking Ahead
D’Amelio Footwear is just getting started. With exciting new releases, including their recent slipper launch that sold out on day one, and plans to expand into bags and accessories, the brand is poised for even greater success.
At its core, D’Amelio Footwear is about more than just shoes. It’s about storytelling, authenticity, and building a lasting connection with fans and customers. For retailers and consumers alike, it’s an opportunity to be part of something real—a brand that’s not just about a name, but about passion, purpose, and quality.
As Marc puts it, “Running a business is difficult. If it were easy, everyone would do it. But we’re in this for the long haul.”
And with their dedication and strategic approach, the D’Amelio family is proving that they’re here to stay.
